BioTeam Consultant
Contact jobs@bioteam.net

Are you the next Bioteam consultant? Bioteam is expanding our top-tier staff. Bioteam “bridges the gap” between science and high performance computing, with a focus on genomics and the life sciences. Our consulting engagements can be from days to months in duration. They may include needs assessments, contract research, software development, purchasing support, hardware configuration and tuning, technical writing, and training. Bioteam’s software products encapsulate and automate the best practices derived from our consulting work

Bioteam does not post and fill pre-defined job descriptions. Instead, each new hire helps to redefine and expand the company’s skill set. We are looking for the best in the field, and we hope that the right person will open new opportunities for the entire company.

Desirable traits include:
• Fascinated by novel technologies. Driven to apply them to science. A background in research is a plus.
• Focused, agile, reliable, and comfortable in working independently in a ultra-low bureaucracy environment. Bioteam is entirely virtualized. The candidate must be self-motivated to meet or exceed production deadlines, and must be comfortable working outside of traditional management roles.
• Excellent communicator: Bioteam staff make regular technical presentations to small and large audiences, write for various publications, and provide onsite, individualized technology training.
• Skilled in software development, with a focus on rapid and flexible prototyping. Requirements for scientific computing codes are usually obselete by the time they are written down, and consultants frequently don’t have the option of rewriting code from scratch. Historically, Bioteam’s software has been written in a variety of languages including PERL, Java, C++, Ruby, PHP, and Objective C.
• Experienced in parallel, clustered, and high performance computing.
• Comfortable and fluent moving between operating systems and administrative domains. We are technology agnostic.
• If possible, the candidate should be nearly clairvoyant in order to derive accurate and achievable requirements from vague statements of work.
Bioteam is committed to providing complete and generous compensation packages, tailored to the individual.
When responding to this posting, please include:
1. An up-to-date resume including accurate contact information.
2. Contact information for two references.
3. A brief write-up about a new scientific or computing technology that fascinates you
4. The time frame in which you are available to pursue this position.
